Charles & Ivy and Our Pledge Towards Sustainability

Here at Charles & Ivy, we’re committed to creating a more sustainable way for our customers to shop, and we’re taking milestone steps towards providing a service as eco-friendly as possible.

Looking a Little Closer to Home

Our premium composite is made from a mixture of 30% recycled wood powder, 45% recycled polyethylene, and 25% calcium carbonate. In fact, we use the equivalent weight of 80 large plastic bottles in each of our composite slats. This is plastic that could have ended up in a landfill or in the oceans, but it instead stands strong in your garden or home, making them an eco-friendly choice for those looking to reduce their carbon footprint.

Additionally, we’ve crafted our premium composite to be incredibly durable and 100% waterproof and weatherproof. This all contributes to your fence, screen, planter or other composite product being able to withstand a range of harsh weather conditions and other damaging factors.

How You Can Help

Once you purchase from Charles & Ivy, you’re purchasing a fence for life. Wooden fencing requires harvesting, and the products tend to be regularly replaced due to their structural integrity. If you were to try and prolong the lifespan of your wooden fence, you’d have to paint and stain it, both of which leak harmful chemicals into the soil and cause damage to animals’ habitats.

Composite doesn’t need to be treated in order to prolong its lifespan; to look after your composite products, all you have to do is clean them with warm, soapy water and a soft-bristled brush.

How We’re Helping Our Planet

We’ve partnered with (more:trees), which sits within The Hut Group (THG), to plant a tree with every purchase over the value of £5. Once you place your order, we’ll send you a confirmation email detailing the type of tree and the location where it will be planted.

Between 2015 and 2020, the rate of global deforestation was estimated at 10 million hectares per year. Whilst this number is down from 16 million hectares per year in the 1990s, the rate is still staggering and one that we’re helping to combat through our partnership with (more:trees).

Planting trees helps absorb carbon from the atmosphere, protects animals from deforestation, supports local farmers and provides them with an opportunity to support their families and learn a skill, and increases rainfall, which improves crop yields.

From working in collaboration with (more:trees) to providing durable products made from recycled materials, we’re making incredible efforts to provide our customers with a service as eco-friendly as possible.
