Do I need planning permission to put a gate on my driveway?
As a rule of thumb, you will not need to obtain planning permission from a local council if an existing gate, garden wall, or boundary exists.
However, if the new gates for your driveway are higher than your old ones, you will need to seek approval first.
If the gate is over 1 metre high and your driveway is adjacent to a busy road (or 2 metres high anywhere else) you will need to acquire planning permission to install a gate.

What is the best material for driveway gates?
Composite driveway gates are the most eco-friendly type on the market, combining recyclable materials that would otherwise end up in the landfill.

Metal driveway gates, such as aluminium, are more durable than their wooden counterparts and require less maintenance than steel.

How high can driveway gates be in the UK?
The height at which driveway gates can be installed depends on where you live.
For example, if your gates open onto a private road, you can erect a gate system that is 2 metres tall without seeking planning permission.
If the gate opens onto a public road or footpath, it must not exceed 1 metre - otherwise, planning permission will be required.
