When investing in something as important as a fence, it’s crucial not to cut corners.

Made from premium composite, our fences are fully weatherproof, with no maintenance needed – say goodbye to painting and staining for good!

But how is our composite fencing installed? And what tools do you need?

Here’s a step-by-step guide for building your Charles & Ivy fence – making the process of installing composite fencing easy.

Is composite fencing easy to install?

Failure to install a composite fence correctly could compromise the performance and longevity of the fencing materials – not to mention your privacy.

However, all of our composite fencing is simple and easy to install, so there’s no need to worry about struggling to assemble it.

In fact, every single one of our products is made for straightforward installation by a confident DIY-er!

What tools are needed to install composite fencing?

One of the reasons why our composite fence panels and aluminium posts are so popular is that you only need a few basic tools to install them.

These include:

  • A spirit level to ensure your posts are level
  • A pencil or pen to mark out where you need to drill holes for the bolts
  • A power drill to drill the holes
  • An adjustable spanner to tighten the bolts

If you’ll be fixing your fencing into decking, you’ll need an 8mm drill bit, whereas an 8mm masonry drill bit will be best for fixing your fence panels into a concrete base.

Installing our weatherproof composite fence systems is even easier to install using your existing fence posts – requiring no tools at all!

Install composite fence panels using concrete posts

Our composite fence panels are incredibly durable and lightweight.

They can be easily lifted and slotted between your existing concrete fence posts – saving you the hassle (and expense!) of buying new ones and making sure they are installed deep enough below ground level.

Follow these simple steps and create your dream outdoor space in no time at all…

Step 1:

Place the side channels into position (these should be slotted vertically into the existing posts), and then horizontally slot in the bottom slat capping.

Step 2:

Start to add in your slats, stacked one after the other, followed by the top slat capping. Finally, if chosen, add in your 18mm composite decorative screen. Each panel will take approximately 10 minutes to install!

Step 3:

Repeat for every fence panel, stand back and enjoy your Charles & Ivy luxury fencing for years to come!

Install composite fence panels using aluminium posts

If you need new fence posts to accompany your composite fencing, aluminium is a great choice.

Made from high-grade aluminium, our metal fence posts are an elegant addition for any outdoor area and can be easily installed on decking or concrete to provide stylish security.

Below, we look at how to install your composite fencing and aluminium posts without fuss.

Step 1:

Gather together the tools and equipment you’ll need. We recommend using a spirit level, adjustable spanner, marker pen or pencil, a drill with an 8mm drill bit (if fixing into decking), or an 8mm masonry drill bit (if fixing into concrete or stone).

Step 2:

Fix a base plate to a post with the countersunk bolts. Then using the first post as a starting point, place the post into position and, with the aid of spirit level, mark out the bolt locations. Drill the holes, fix them with bolts and slide the base plate cover into position.

Step 3:

Use composite slats as a spacing guide, and place your next post into position – it will measure approximately 180cm in length from post centre to post centre and 18mm in thickness!

Step 4:

Slide the bottom capping into position, then add the slats, followed by a capping slat.

Step 5:
Finally, if chosen, add in your 18mm composite decorative screen. Each panel will take approximately 10 minutes to install once the posts have been fitted. Then just sit back and admire your brand-new fence!

It’s as simple as that!

Things to remember when installing a composite fence

·        Check local regulations

One of the most common mistakes made when installing composite fencing is not checking the local building codes, resulting in a fine.

Obtaining the necessary permits before you start building your luxury Charles & Ivy composite fence will save you from running into timely delays, allowing you to enjoy your gorgeous new fencing sooner!

·        Talk to your neighbours

If you want to replace a fence on your neighbour’s property with composite panels to ensure a cohesive look in your garden, the first step is to speak with them.

Checking they are happy for you to go ahead and build a new fence could save you from disputes and costly legal issues.

·        Plan for uneven ground

Not many gardens are completely flat. They often have dips and rises which means your fencing posts  or panels won’t sit level.

To avoid this, only instal new posts and slat panels when your ground has been levelled by a professional – this will prevent your fence from wobbling or falling over in strong winds.

·        Plan for future maintenance

Maintenance should be considered from the outset.

Not considering the placement of your fencing in relation to your house and garden could make it difficult to reach both sides for cleaning and repairs – costing you more money in the long run.
