How to maintain your composite fence panels

How to maintain your composite fence panels

Composite fence panels are known for their durability and weather resistance, but that’s not to say they don’t benefit from a clean every now and again.

After all, they do deserve a little TLC, just like the rest of us.

Here’s your low-maintenance guide on how to clean Charles & Ivy fence panels.

Benefits of composite fence panels

If we were to list all the benefits of composite fence panels, we’d be here all day!

So, here are the top three:

  • Weather resistant
  • Unlike traditional wooden panels - that rot, warp, and misshape - composite fence panels can withstand everything from harsh sunlight to heavy rain, and strong winds to thick snow.

They’re UV-resistant too! This means you don’t have to worry about the colour fading after a few years. No need to paint or stain.

  • Eco-friendly
  • Made from recycled materials, you don’t have to worry about your carbon footprint when you choose composite fences.

    But it doesn’t stop there.

Because they’re so reliable and don’t require frequent replacement, you can further reduce your need for raw materials. They don’t need staining either, reducing harsh chemicals being released into the area.

  • Low maintenance
  • Other than the occasional cleaning, our fence panels are pretty low maintenance.

You don’t need to stain or paint them to preserve the colour and grain. This not only saves you time but also reduces long-term maintenance costs.

    Cleaning composite fence panels

No need to search high and low for information on how to clean fence panels when you choose Charles & Ivy.

All you need is warm, soapy water (using a mild soap, like washing-up liquid), and a sponge or soft-bristled brush.

Gently wipe over the area, paying special attention to any marks or built-up dirt. Finish off by rinsing with the hose to prevent soap marks.

    Seasonal maintenance

    Summer

Let’s set the scene: the sun is shining, your friends are on their way, and the delicious scent of the BBQ is filling the air.

    But wait…what’s that?

Dust? Pollen? Watermarks from the wet winter we had?

    That just won’t do!

Get out a damp cloth and some mild soap and quickly wipe over your composite fence panels! You don’t want to ruin your reputation of having the most pristine fence in the area, do you?

    Winter

When you get your coats out of storage, and start reaching for your electric blanket, it’s wintertime.

While you probably don’t get much use out of your garden when the temperature drops, it’s always good to keep an eye on your composite fence to keep it looking good for when summer rolls around.

If you get some snow in your garden, avoid using salt or de-icing chemicals on your composite fence panels - this will just damage the protection promised with composite materials.

Stick to gently moving any snow out of the way, and cleaning as advised when you feel necessary.

    When to clean?

There are no concrete rules when it comes to cleaning your composite fence panels.

    Does it look dirty?

    Give it a wipe!

To maintain its premium look, give your fence a thorough clean twice a year. But, if your fence is more exposed to dirt, pollen, dust, or dampness in shaded areas, you may find you’ll have to clean it every few months to keep it looking its best.
